Track with Tile

29.6.15

If like me, you're prone to losing things, then Tile is for you. The office keys are something which I usually misplace (the curse of changing handbags) and there is always a mad panic when I need to be out the door, but the keys are nowhere to be found!

Tile is perfect for this situation. Tile is building the largest community of people united in helping each other find their most important things. Tile is made up of three core components- a physical Tile, an app and the community.

Simply attach your Tile to your most important item that you don't want to lose, and download the app to sync. Tile is a Bluetooth Low Energy device, and if you are not in the range of Bluetooth when searching for your item, Tile uses the connection of neighbouring iPhones running the app to cast a wider search net. Pretty awesome!

Find out more about Tile below! You can also have fun by looking at the #TiledIt hashtag on all the social media platforms.

Thanks to Tile for sending me a device to test. All opinions are my own.

The Tory Burch Home Collection

24.6.15

I've always loved eye-catching tablewear, and when I heard that Tory Burch was reproducing the classic Dodie Thayer lettuce leaf design my heart skipped a beat!

Capturing the easy elegance of 1960s Palm Beach, Dodie Thayer's lettuce leaf design was a staple for many high society doyennes across the land. Jacqueline Kennedy, C.Z Guest and the Duchess of Windsor were fans. Brooke Astor' 200+ piece collection sold for $74,500 at a Sotheby's sale in 2012.

Prices range from £65- £175.

Another great set of items available in Tory's home collection is the Spongeware set. Inspired by the designer's favourite 19th century ceramics, the blue and white set is perfect for summer entertaining.

GIVEAWAY: May Designs

22.6.15

You'll know from previous posts that I am a big fan of stationery. Notecards, books, monogrammed paper, you name it, I want it. May Designs is the perfect supplier for my obsession, and now you can get a piece of the action!

May Designs was founded by Mica May when she couldn't find the perfect little notebook to take to her design client meetings. She started making pretty little books and knew she was onto something when her graphic design clients began to ask about pricing. Within a few days she had a domain name and ideal client lists and was on her way to building her company!

She decided to give it her all in the very first year, and in December of 2011 her little company changed forever in just 15 seconds from being featured on Good Morning America! In just a few hours they received 33,000 orders, and they've been full speed ahead ever since!

I've teamed up with May Designs to give you the chance to create your own personalized notebook or card set! Enter using the Rafflecopter widget below.

The giveaway is open to all readers and closes on the 29th June 2015. Good luck!

My Relaxation Tips

19.6.15

I seem to be living in a whirlwind at the moment; my to-do list growing ever longer as each day passes.

It's been a particularly busy week, and on more than one occasion, I have been reminded to ‘just breathe.’

So what do I do when I need to take five minutes?

Switch off all digital devices

Off goes the iPhone, and the iMac is sent to sleep. I admit I am a slave to modern technology, and there can be nothing more fulfilling then leaving my phone at home just to escape!

Open a book

I always have several books on the go. Books currently gracing my nightstand include Michelle Obama: A Life by Peter Slevin, My Organic Life by Nora Pouillon and My Story by Julia Gillard.

Watch my favorite shows

This is truly one of the best ways to escape from the daily grind. I’m hooked on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, and can easily watch four episodes in a row! Escaping to a different world (whether it is fact or fiction,) can bring some much-needed clarity.

Get outside

Just to have the fresh air filling my lungs instantly calms me down! I make sure that I get out of the office each day for a walk- it focuses my mind, provides ‘me time,’ and is importantly, good for you! I always feel fighting fit and ready to take on the rest of the day afterwards.

Get musical

Pop in the earbuds and blast your favorite tunes!

Write

I love to write, and getting my ideas out on paper really helps to clear my mind. A little bit each day, whatever the genre, can really help!

Get moving

I love my Wii console (bowling is my favorite!) If I only have ten minutes or so to de-stress, I’ll pop on the sports game and face my digital opponent. The swordplay game is the ultimate tension burner!

Quiet time

If all else fails, I retreat into a quiet moment of reflection. Deep breaths, clearing the mind and just relax. There could be nothing better.

Support Covey

16.6.15

Captured by Lani Michelle
Are you looking to support independent designers that use ethical manufacturing standards? You may want to shop at Covey!

Covey are launching their Kickstarter campaign today, and it will feature pieces from the first wave of designers who have joined this innovative project. Garments and accessories on the site have a fresh, contemporary aesthetic with a keen emphasis on quality and craftsmanship.

I spoke to Covey's founders, Monica Rojas and Sarah hicks about their hopes for Covey.

How is Covey different from other ‘ethical’ online stores?

Shopping consciously is not easy. Buzzwords such as "ethical", "conscious" and "sustainable" get thrown around by many retailers to cash in on people's goodwill. Covey is all about the products. Our focus is design, craftsmanship, and sustainability. We will let the designs speak for themselves, but we will take the time to tell the story behind the garment. We love customers who ask questions about products. We want to provide all the answers right off the bat, to give you an effortless and transparent shopping experience.

Tell us about some of the independent designers that Covey is supporting.

Probably the most rewarding part of this project is creating a platform to showcase so much incredible talent. One of our Kickstarter rewards is the Mond Top by Elise Ballegeer. Elise founded her namesake brand in Berlin, Germany. The simplicity of her garments allude to that effortless sophistication of Northern European design. We are also crazy about Trajet jewelry by Tracy McClain. Tracy channels her creativity to deconstruct vintage jewelry and transform it into something new and modern. Each piece has a story, and many are one of a kind.

How is Kickstarter transforming your quest?

Kickstarter will help us reach more like-minded people and grow our community. The financial support will help us to fund all the infrastructure and logistics that a business needs to run smoothly. More importantly, we want to reach as many people as possible and tell them why we are so passionate about Covey. We want to change the fashion industry. Every time we get even one more person to shop more consciously, we are making a difference.

How do you encourage other female entrepreneurs in the world of fashion to achieve their dreams?

This country is based on our right to the "pursuit of happiness". I think the key to happiness is two-fold. Step one: figure out what you want. Step two: make it happen. Step one being the most difficult. Once you know where you're going, it's a lot easier to figure out which road will get you there. You have to stay focused on your goal, and surround yourself with people who share your vision and encourage you to be better.

What do you want Covey to achieve both short term and long term?

Our goal is to create value, for our customers, for our vendors, for our community. We want to make it easy for people to make the right choice. Covey will provide ethical fashion that you want to wear. In the short term, this will result in a successful business. In the long term, this will change the way people think about fashion.

This week, President Obama traveled to Krun, Germany, a small village in the Bavarian Alps to meet with the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7).

During its 41st annual summit, the G7 made progress on a number of issues, including the need to move away from fossil fuels, the need to integrate climate risks into development assistance, the desire to forge new trade partnerships, shared support for Ukraine, and the global mission to fight terrorism.

The First Lady delivered her final commencement address of the season at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Preparatory High School (King College Prep) in Chicago, IL. In addition to this commencement, this spring Mrs. Obama celebrated the graduates at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, AL, and Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH as a way to shine a spotlight on students who have gone above and beyond to reach higher, and help others do the same.

All Aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia

10.6.15

A few weeks ago I was in Edinburgh for a short city break. The highlight of the trip was going aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia!

A special tour had been arranged for 8am, and my group were able to board the via the Royal Brow, the entrance used by the Queen and her guests!

Our tour guide showed us round the yacht, and we saw areas including the crew's quarters, the dining room and the Queen's private rooms. We also saw the Bloodhound (a royal racing boat,) and the Queen's Rolls Royce.

As the yacht was used by the Royal Family for their vacations, many personal effects and photographs remain. All of the clocks on the yacht show the time of 3.01pm, marking when the monarch stepped off the vessel for the very last time.

It was a fascinating and fun trip, and having breakfast on the top deck was a fun way to begin the day!

Check out my photos for a look at my visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia! View more of my photos over on Flickr.

Simply S'well

8.6.15

Navy or nothing!
I am super conscious about keeping hydrated, and try to drink the recommended amount of water every day. One thing that really irritates me is the number of plastic bottles that are around, and if I'm out and about and have forgotten to bring a drink with me, I end up purchasing another plastic bottle of water.

My use of plastic bottles will be gone thanks to S'well. S'well was launched in 2010 by Sarah Kauss who was also on a quest to rid the world of plastic bottles. In the US alone, an estimated 50 billion plastic bottles are dumped in landfill sites. Across the world, it is estimated that 200 billion reach the same fate.

S'well bottles keeps drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12, plus the cap is big enough to place ice cubes inside. The bottle also fits in a standard size cup holder, making it perfect for long car journeys! S'well is also available in three sizes- 9oz, 17oz and 25oz and you can customise bottles, making them ideal for a personal or a corporate gift.

S'well gives back by supporting the US Fund for UNICEF, donating $100,000 to help provide clean water to the world's most vulnerable children. S'well also supports American Forests and Drink Up.

I love that S'well has so many options to choose from! From stone to wood, glitter to satin, you will be spoilt for choice when deciding what to pick! After much deliberation I chose the navy alligator from the Exotics collection. It's shiny, high gloss and super cool. My bottle will be accompanying me to work, when I'm out running errands, to the gym and also when I'm relaxing at home! It's my new chic way of keeping hydrated!

*Thanks to S'well and HomeArama for sending me a S'well bottle to review. All opinions are solely my own.*
